Mr. Petainen, As you recall I was at the meeting just over a week ago. U of M DPS spokeswomen, Diane Brown, coordinated a huge task of getting all of the leaders from the respective disciplines that could even remotely be part of the incident you witnessed on the Huron River together. The folks you talked with that day have dedicated their lives to public safety and serving the needs of others over themselves. U of M DPS, OSEH, Emergency Management, Hospital and facilities along with Ann Arbor Fire, Police and Emergency Management (among others) in compliance with State Law have worked cooperatively to attempt to identify the cause of what was discovered by you and subsequently found by AAFD. These efforts revealed no known cause nor any evident environmental detriment. The State of Michigan MI-DNRE as well as the Michigan State Police Emergency Management-Homeland Security Division have all been included in the progress of this incident. No entity has found any significant impact or known cause for the release of what has been clearly been identified (by more than one source) as a petroleum based product. Considering the significant professional resources and time invested in thoroughly investigating this incident and complying with State Law I consider this matter closed as a minor spill from an unknown source with no evident environmental impact. Your quantum leap in logic attempting to connect the true disaster in the Kalamazoo River to this incident make it clear that no amount of effort, documentation or investigation will satisfy your perspective of this incident. Enbridge has accepted full responsibility for the spill in the west part of the state. Please be clear, your efforts to this point have made all of the involved parties re-evaluate their responses (which is a positive) and those responses have been confirmed as well as the procedures tested. However, we have completed this incident. No further professional resources will be expended on this incident, we are moving beyond this incident. Thank you, Sergeant Ed Dreslinski, P.E.M.
