This is a map with the following e-mailed explanation from Homayoon Pirooz, head of Ann Arbor's project management unit, sent to a city resident:

We have met before and have discussed in great details our many concerns with a scenario that would require the removal of the E. Stadium Bridges and their replacement with two new very wide intersections, with very large traffic volumes near mostly residential properties.

The attached drawing was prepared for our meetings with the public in 2009. The drawing shows the immediate impact of the required road widening on almost all the adjacent properties on both E. Stadium Blvd and S. State Street. The required road realignment alone will have a large impact on the residents and their quality of life in this area. Let’s also not forget that those residents, UM and the Railroad must all accept to sell or donate portions of their properties for any scenario that would require wider streets and intersections. That alone can be a substantial expense that I don’t believe anyone can accurately estimate.
